Our Examples of Amazing Home Additions

A home addition is the single most expensive home remodeling purchase one will ever make. There are many ideas on how to make home addition depending on your choice and needs. If you’ve been thinking about a home addition project, you may be thinking about the limitations, but there are fewer of them than you might imagine.

Home additions come in a few basic types to address your needs for living space, cost, and style. Home additions range from:

  • Low-cost,
  • Do-It-Yourself sunrooms that only minimally can be called additions
  • Expensive full-size conventional additions.
  • Garage conversions can even legitimately be called additions since so much living area is added at once.

Home Additions can cost as much as you want. Some even meet or exceed the cost of the main house itself.

There are many amazing home addition ideas and I think what really makes people want to go wild with them is the idea of having so much extra space. Amazing things can be done when you’re committing to a lot of new space in your home.

Here are some of the great ideas we’ve made and put into action that may be just right for you.

Project in McLean, Virginia

A Terrace or Balcony addition is perfect for you if you enjoy spending some time on the terrace or balcony of your house. Closing this part of the house would turn out as a terrace looks amazingly great. You can spend some time to chill in this area that would bring you peace of mind.

Just some trivia for you, the word “terrace” is derived from the Latin word for Earth. A terrace is an external, raised, open, flat area in either a landscape, a building or as a roof terrace on a flat roof. Terrace is actually used interchangeably with the word “patio” in many cases. Although similar, a terrace and a patio are not the same.

The distinguishing factor between the two is that a terrace is ground-level. But it is raised from the ground around it. Such as being built at the edge of a hill or cliff. The word terrace gives more description as to the physical surroundings of the outdoor structure whereas a patio is on flat level ground.

On the other hand, a balcony is a platform projecting from the wall of a building. It is supported by columns or console brackets and enclosed with a balustrade usually above the ground floor. The word “balcony” is actually derived from the Italian word for “large window.” Believe it or not, most balconies were accessed through large windows

The photo shown above is a balcony addition in McLean Virginia. It is done in the third storey of the house. It is covered with light-tinted glass. You can enjoy hanging out on the terrace at any time of the day.

Project in Vienna, Virginia

While the picture shown below is a terrace/patio addition done in Vienna, Virginia. This terrace addition provides additional space to relax while watching your surroundings. The shades and scenery outside are perfect for you to think and relax.

Another Project in Vienna, Virginia

Without a doubt, most people would like a larger kitchen. Even though kitchens have expanded over the last few decades. The average kitchen size tends to range from 100 to 200 square feet. It gets even more complicated with kitchens being central gathering points. Kitchen islands and sit-down breakfast bars create the need for even more space.

Here is another project in Vienna, Virginia where the home addition emphasizes the kitchen bump-out. This gives the kitchen just enough room to add an island. With this extra room, even a considerably sized entertainment kitchen island with seating can be built. The client who loves to cook can replace existing appliances with larger, newer appliances that are better suited to their needs.

This kitchen bump-out addition paves the way to a larger living area. It also provides a space for a dining area that is overlooking the garden.

This project also provided a room for doing the laundry and a storage area. With this expansion, you can freely do your laundry and keep all your things in one area. Laundry room additions are a wildly popular home remodeling project. If you are considering an addition, you have the luxury of customizing your space to create a convenient and functional space.

Washing machines and dryers were often placed in the basement of homes built in the 20th century. Homeowners found themselves throwing the laundry into their machines hurriedly to escape the cold, dimly lit, and often unfinished bottom floor.

But nowadays it’s much more convenient to have a laundry center on the same floor as the bedrooms or even on the main floor where you can flip loads while tending to other important business in the kitchen or living room.

Here are some tips on your laundry room addition:

  • Laundry is not a particularly exciting endeavor. But if your laundry room is cheery, functional, and convenient, you will find yourself smiling while separating lights and darks.
  • Transform the laundry room into a laundry retreat.
  • Choose a bright color to paint the walls.
  • If it’s possible to add windows to the plan, having natural light pour in would be a bonus.
  • Treat the room as special as any other.
  • Hang a framed print of something that makes you smile every time you walk into your laundry room.
  • Add speakers for music, audiobooks, or podcasts, or a small television to catch up on favorite shows while you wash, flip, dry, and fold.

A pleasant organized laundry room in a convenient location will make the boring task of cleaning and folding clothes feel more like an escape.

Project in Annandale, Virginia

This project is adding a new room. We were able to make a huge bedroom with a bathroom on the upper level. And a wide kitchen area with a laundry room in the lower level. The outcome of the project is very mesmerizing.

Here is the lower level of the home addition; the wide kitchen area where you can freely do and cook anything you wish for.

People have gone many directions while designing their laundry room including multi-angle cabinets or shelves to be able to see the form. Whatever it is, the main goal is where you can place your washer and dryer. Then you have a place for storage keeping the old and new laundry.

Project in Great Falls, Virginia

This project in Great Falls is quite challenging but the outcome turned out to be breathtaking. Space under is accessible and can also be used as a garage or simply a place to hang out from time to time.

The home addition also paved the way for a bigger and better view of the dining area. Spending time in the dining area while looking at the surroundings outside is quite relaxing. It also gives you a feel of the countryside.

The living area concept and interior designs are amazingly beautiful. Simply looking at it, this space gives the impression of peace and calmness be it daytime or night time.

Here is another view of the project that simply shows that the kitchen to the dining area to the living area is simply quite accessible. The kitchen island has a shelf for books that is really a great idea that its functionality does not only dictates in the kitchen area but on the area around it. Exquisitely beautiful idea.
